Fortuné Landry, mathématicien français qui a fait plusieurs recherches sur les
nombres premiers. Il a publié en 1853, Premier Mémoire sur la
Théorie des nombres
Hachette, Paris, février 1853, numérisé par Google Book. Comprenant la
Démonstration d'un Principe de Legendre Relatif au Théorème de Fermat. Ce livre a été numérisé pas
Google et est disponible ici.
En 1869 :
"This is an example of an Aurifeuillian factorization, named after Léon François Antoine Aurifeuille, who discovered a special case in 1873: 24m − 2 + 1 = (22m − 1 + 2m + 1)(22m − 1 − 2m + 1) Knowledge of this factorization would have saved the many years of his life that Fortuné Landry spent factoring 258 + 1, finally finishing in 1869. Landry’s gargantuan factorization is just a trivial special case! 258 + 1 = (229 + 215 + 1)(229 − 215 + 1)"

En 1880 :
Il trouve le plus grand nombre premier, en essayant par divisions. Il s'agit
d'un des facteurs divisant 259 – 1. Il s'agit du nombre 3 203 431 780 337 = (259
– 1) / 179 951.
Ce nombre détient le record du premier non - Mersenne le plus grand, trouvé sans
ordinateur.
